The complementary colors mutually intensify their luminosity to a maximum; when mixed they extinguish each other to produce grey; the model is an experiment to obtain neutral grey by mixing through motion two complementary colours.
Threads of complementary colours (orange and blue) are wound on the reels, with both threads fastened to the opposite reels; an electric motor puts the reels in continuous motion from left to right and back; the colours alternately mix with and separate from their complementary colour on each reel, becoming grey and colourful accordingly.
